Depo-Provera Mass Tort Case Sees Major Updates Ahead of 2026 Trial

Draftncraft | Blogs

Once known for its convenience – one shot every three months, Depo-Provera is now at the center of a major mass tort storm. The birth control, made by Pfizer, faces thousands of lawsuits from women who claim long-term use caused meningioma, a rare type of brain tumor.

For years, Pfizer defended itself by saying it couldn’t legally add new warnings without FDA approval. That changed in December 2025, when the FDA finally stepped in, requiring Pfizer to include a brain tumor warning on the label, something plaintiffs had been demanding for years.

The move turned up the legal heat. The number of lawsuits has now surged past 2,000, a fivefold jump since 2025. The case, part of a growing wave of pharma mass torts, will see its first federal trial in December 2026 in Florida, where a jury will decide if Pfizer failed to warn women soon enough.

From a birth control shot to a courtroom headline, Depo-Provera’s story now stands as one of 2026’s biggest mass tort battles.
