North Belle Vernon Man causes “Extra-Ordinary Child Abuse”

Robert Radacy, 29, a North Belle Vernon resident has been arrested and accused for child abuse. He has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault and single count of endangering the welfare of children after he was interviewed by Westmoreland County detectives.

A Pittsburgh doctor told investigators that the victim, a four week old girl, suffered “extraordinary, physical abuse”. The medical report of the infant reads – multiple rib fractures and likely fractures in every extremity of her body. The report also showed a healing femur fracture in the left leg; a displaced, complete fracture in the right forearm; a likely bowing fracture of the right tibia; likely left tibia, right femur and left and right upper arm “bucket handle” fractures and a “questionable abnormality” of the left shoulder.

On being questioned by the investigating police officers, Radacy admitted that he was the primary caretaker for the child in the two days when the broken leg and arm purportedly occurred. The reasons that he offered to the investigating police officers read that he “might have been too rough when he put the victim in her car seat because he had to push her arms down” he added that he “may have tightened the car seat too tight” which may have caused the rib fractures. For the leg injury, he stated that “when the child could not poop, he had to bend her legs up to her belly and he might have been too rough”.

Radacy has waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Rostraver before Magisterial District Judge Charles Christner. He is now scheduled for a formal arraignment at 8:30 a.m. on June 17, 2015. Till then, he will remain in the Westmoreland County Prison, where he is being held in lieu of $150,000 cash bond.
