Coffee shops located at Leominster and Littleton fined with $47,000

Maura Healey, the Attorney General announced that around $47,000 of fine has been imposed on the chains of coffee shop located in Leominster and Littleton for violating the Massachusetts child labor and wage and hour laws with its employees.
 

In total, four civil citations were issued against Delgado Donut Shops, LLC, and Route 13 Donut Shop, Inc., which do business as Dippin’ Donuts, along with owners Fernanda Delgado and her husband Hilario Delgado. Further, the defendant was ordered by the AG’s Office to pay more than $15,000 in restitution and close to $32,000 in penalties.
 

Healey said, “Our child labor laws are designed to protect minors by limiting the hours and times they can work. We want to make sure that this business provides its staff with better working conditions and does not interfere with the earnings that they depend on.”
 

The violation of the child labor and wage and hour laws was taking place since 2012. The most common was that the minors were made to work after 8:00 p.m. without adult supervision which was commonly practiced at Leominster.
 

The restrictions imposed under Massachusetts Child Labor Laws included both the occupations in which minors were employed, as well as on the number of the hours for work.
 

The Supervisors, including the owners and managers, used to collect money from a tip pool. The management and non-service employees were specifically prohibited from receiving or sharing tips. According to the reviewed reports of the Delgados, more than $15,000 tips were unlawfully retained by management.
 

The law regulating to the payment of wages, including prevailing wage, minimum wage, overtime and tip and record keeping laws were being enforced by the AG’s Office.
