Few Facts on Child Abuse

  • 77 cases of child abuse are made each hour.1
  • 679,000 child victims of abuse and neglect found each year.1
    (At the rate of 9.1 victims per 1,000 children in the U.S.)
  • Four children approximately die every day as a result of child abuse.2
  • Per year 1,520 children die of abuse and neglect in the U.S. 1
    (2.04 children per 100,000 approximately die of abuse and neglect per year.)
  • Three-quarters (73.9%) of all child fatalities were younger than 3 years.1
  • Near about 50-60% of child fatalities due to maltreatment never got recorded as such on death certificates. 4
  • It is shocking that the highest rates of child abuse occur under the age of one (23.1 per 1,000 children).1
